Patients of all ages are always welcome at Smile Dental Care, and we take great pride in providing outstanding treatments and service for children and teens. We know how important it is to provide younger patients with positive dental foundations that will benefit them throughout their lives. By bringing your child to Smile Dental Care, you will provide them with the gift of great oral health and beautiful teeth.
The First Visit
Our experts recommend scheduling your child’s first dental visit shortly after their first teeth begin to emerge. This will allow us to get an early look at your child’s teeth and gums and make sure that everything is developing as it should. Parents are encouraged to use this time to ask questions and to address any concerns they have about their child’s oral care practices. The first visit is also a great opportunity to provide parents with helpful information regarding teething, cavity prevention, brushing and flossing techniques, thumb sucking and more.
Kids’ Complete Checkups
In order to maintain proper oral health, every child should receive a complete dental checkup at least twice per year. These routine visits help us keep track of your child’s oral health, and they allow us to provide timely treatment if it is ever necessary. During this time, we will thoroughly clean your child’s teeth and alert you of any cavities that are found. We also use this opportunity to present parents with proper techniques for caring for their child’s developing teeth.
Certain preventive treatments can make your child less likely to require extensive dental procedures later in life. Preventive treatments work best when they are used early on, so it’s very important that you get your child started as soon as possible. Some common types of preventive dental treatments include dental sealants, fluoride applications and mouth guards for children who play contact sports.
It can be particularly devastating for a child or teen when their teeth become damaged. When this occurs, receiving a proper restoration is important, not only for their oral health but also for their confidence. At Smile Dental Care, we work hard to provide younger patients with top-quality dental restorations that leave their teeth looking absolutely beautiful. Whether your child needs a filling, a crown, bridgework or a filling, you can be sure that they will receive the best restoration possible at our practice.
Dental emergencies can affect people of any age, and children are no exception. When children require emergency treatment, our top priority is to provide a result that is both fast and effective. Our caring staff will do everything possible to help your child get through this troubling situation so that they can get back on the right track for great oral health. Although nobody wants to experience a dental emergency, you can rest easy in knowing that we will provide your child with the top-quality attention and care that they deserve.
When a child is undergoing a more extensive procedure or when a child is particularly nervous about receiving treatment, we may provide them with some type of sedation. The process is carefully monitored in order to ensure that your child is kept safe throughout the process. Although most of the younger patients who visit our practice do not require any type of sedation at all, it can be particularly helpful in certain circumstances.
Designed to prevent baby teeth from moving or shifting position, dental spacers are special bands that are worn over a child’s teeth. Spacers are typically used when a child has lost their baby teeth at a particularly early age, possibly due to an accident, and having their adjacent teeth shift position would be problematic.
Consisting of an acrylic coating that is applied to the back molars, dental sealants establish an effective barrier against harmful bacteria and acids that can damage teeth. Sealants also provide the benefit of smoothing out the deep grooves and fissures that are commonly found on baby teeth in order to make them easier to clean and maintain. Many children and teens receive dental sealants as a way of protecting their teeth from damage and decay while they continue to develop correct brushing and flossing techniques.
Supplemental fluoride applications can go a long way towards maintaining the health of your child’s teeth. Fluoride works to strengthen teeth and remineralize tooth enamel, making it highly effective for preventing tooth decay and reversing its harmful effects. Our experts strongly recommend fluoride applications for any child who is at a particularly high risk for experiencing tooth decay. The process is very quick and easy, and it can be conveniently completed alongside a regular dental checkup.
